1. Towering redwoods, radiating wisdom and peace, in a misty Pacific Northwest rain.
2. The red dusty earth, dotted with baobab trees and the colorful clothing of Maasai friends, as the sun went down on New Year's Eve in Tanzania.
3. Children laughing as they hit a brightly colored pinata over and over again, against a backdrop of the Mediterranean Sea on the eastern coast of Spain.
4. A lunar eclipse with sand in my toes, friends at my side and beer in my hand, in San Pedro Town, Belize.
5. The river that dances a slow waltz as it rolls by my grandmother's house in the woods.
6. The rosy cheeks and rosebud mouths of my children as they sleep.
7. The view out an old farmhouse window one day in August: my almost-husband already standing with our family and friends at the end of the grassy lawn, waiting for me to put on my dress and join him to exchange promises of love and hope.

so lovely, the places you've been.
if i had to add a ninth, i might have suggested the view from Tikal. xo
um, i mean an eighth. 8 comes after 7. i do know that. sheesh.
Jen, the view from Tikal was on the list. It read:
Looking at the world from the top of Tikal, Guatemala.
And then I was at, damn, #8! But, oh, Tikal. I turned to a new corner of my soul, there.
This nearly made me cry, J. Such a lovely soul those views have enriched. So lucky I am to have seen a few of them, too.
You have been blessed not only by enjoying these views but by appreciating them and the way that they've impacted you. Beautiful post...
Beautiful post!
Beautiful!
Christine, you have shared many soul-shaping views with me. Had I had more room on this list, "Jim Morrison's grave, as seen through drank-a-whole-bottle-of-wine-myself eyes" was on the list. ;)
Rebecca, after I posted this, I thought, "I hope this doesn't sound really braggy." Like "I've been here and I've been here..." I have been very, very lucky in terms of travel. It's always been so high on my priority list. Somewhere below the children but above food and mortgage, for Bill and I. *grin*. But writing this made me see that part of the reason travel is so important for me is because it is so impacting. Each new place is a chance to expand and grow that much more... I don't know I'd thought of it that way, before. I thought I just got antsy in one place for too long. ;)
This is lovely. You ought to put it together in a book with photographs.
Oh, wow. I can see, judging from those words, how it is that you have such a lovely soul . . .
Great imagery, even if it does make me very jealous!
Such beautiful views! You have a real gift for writing visually.
Ooh, this makes me wish I was back in Belize. We were on Ambergris Caye last month! Thanks for the link to my post. I've added yours now as well.
What beautiful words to describe such beautiful memories. Thank you for sharing them :)
Oh, J - this was perfect. Reading it gave me chills. More (domestic) adventure this summer? =)
These memory photos are always better than the kind in albums. They never have a thumb stuck right in front of them, and the light is always just right. I think writing them down seals them forever for us and our kids. Their lives, their whole childhood, will be framed by these memories. And you guys are making some really good ones....
V, yee-haw!
e, I think you're so right. I need to figure out how (and how much) to preserve these memories for my children though. I write them here, but...they won't want this entire...thing. I need to do some sort of hard copy scrapbooking-with-blog-posts for each of them. Or something. I'll put that task on The List. ;)
Beautiful list. And jen is an inspiration, isn't she?
Heidi
Heidi, she really is, isn't she?!
